Overview
For the Identical Matching, Similar Matching and Receptive Labeling activities, once you have chosen your Target and Distractor words, you can choose how you want to present the cards to your student using the settings in the Positioning and Repetition Section.
This section allows you to determine:
- How many times you want the card to appear in the same position within the field.
- How many different positions you want to rotate a target card though before switching to a new target.
- How many times each target card will repeat within the drill.
- The maximum number of cards that will appear within the selection field (1 - 6).
In Practice
Consider the settings chosen on the above screen shot for the Identical Matching activity:
-
Number correct before position switch = 2
-
Positions correct before new target = 2
-
Target card repeat per drill = 2
-
Number of cards in field =6
Assume we chose Apple and Ball as our Target words, with Cat, Airplane, Bird, Car and Flower as Distractors. Here is the flow of card presentation if your student gets ALL ANSWERS CORRECT.

Apple in the same position for 2 trials

Apple switch to new position for 2 trials

Switch to Ball as target. Ball in same position for 2 trials

Ball switch to new position for 2 trials

Switch back to apple as target. Apple in same position for 2 trials

Apple switch to new position for 2 trials

Switch back to Ball as target. Ball in same position for 2 trials

Ball switch to new position for 2 trials

This demonstration is based on the Identical Matching activity, but the positioning and repetition works largely the same for Identical Matching, Similar Matching and Receptive Labeling. This demonstration also assumed all CORRECT answers. To understand what happens to the presentation order when a student gets a card INCORRECT, visit our Prompting Help Menu.
